Publishing Qualifications: My skills are in scientific publishing (2000 - 2004) specializing in typesetting using LaTeX to PDF or non-academic publications in Adobe InDesign, CorelDRAW and Imaging in Photoshop.

Previous work experience: Office management for Sotheby’s International Realty and qualified estate agent (2004 - 2005); Scientific publishing and production office management for the European Geosciences Union in Germany (2000 - 2004); I owned a conference and event management company for 5 years (1995 - 2000); marketing and sales for pharmaceutical companies 7 years (1988 - 1995).

My expertise and first passion is in scientific publishing specializing in typesetting using LaTeX (editing of text and equations in parallel) and creating a PDF file for print & online publishing. I have knowledge and experience in the field of scientific publications, as head of the Production Office for the European Geosciences Union (EGU), formerly known as European Geophysical Society (EGS) - Max-Planck Institute of Aeronomy, Lindau Germany, for 4 years. The internationally renowned journals that are owned, published and distributed by the EGU are - Annales Geophysicae, Nonlinear Processes in Geophysics, Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, Advances in Geosciences, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, and the online journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Discussion.

The European Geosciences Union also hosts the Annual General Assembly each year in spring with over 10,000 international scientists attending and over 10,000 talks, lectures and poster presentations happening over 7 days in April. Other projects included the Scientific programme book (in the year 2003 it was 850 pages), posters, journal flyers, website updates and online journal administration and other advertising materials.

Quick publication, keeping to tight deadlines, working systematically and under pressure, an excellent understanding of LaTeX2e and other programmes such as Adobe programmes (i.e. Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator), and working without supervision are my strong points. I also have tremendous love and passion for the work that I do and take great care and have a great respect for the author and the material that is given to me to prepare for publication. I have returned and settled permanently in South Africa, where I now live with my husband, who is a freelance photographer and DTP image designer, and have set up an independent publishing business so that I can continue my career.

In brief, my main duties included:

· Scientific manuscript management, handling over 8000 published pages a year;
· Close liaison and communication with the international Editorial Boards of the various scientific journals and the authors, who were scattered all over the globe, and all communications in English;
· Professional processing of figures and images;
· Typesetting, editing and formatting the manuscripts in LaTeX2e and creating a versatile electronic PDF file for ease of copy-editing, proofreading distribution, for final printing using digital technology and for online use as a full article for the Electronic online journal;
· Monthly Journal publication compilation and pagination;
· Final quality control and check;
· Delivery and liaison with the digital printers of the final publication;
· Online publications published to the web (Abstract in html, full article as PDF) and updating and management of the journals’ websites.
· Marketing and subscriber relations.
