About the Book:

“I am a mirror of the days when long skirts were hot
When soily facial skin needed no artificial colours to glow
When hair did not need to reach shoulders to make one pretty
But could just stand like an Afro can
That was when black like me was in style....
As this mirror keeps breaking into bits of pieces
I write and wonder...”

About the Author:

In the 19 years of my life, I have discovered that God created his beings like different strokes on a painting. Each stroke being an individual that is put to life for it's own role that is connected to the rest of the art. But fortunately unlike strokes on a painting, human beings are given the will to re-invent themselves, brighten their form, re-define the colour that they have been painted in and stand out. If you were the painter wouldn't you be glad to see your painting become more than just a dull work of art? The painting will not turn to magnificence over night, but the individual strokes that will not conform, will make the difference.

On the 28 of December 2010 I received 100 copies of my self published poetry anthology, 'Colourless poetry'. The book has been published by New voice publishers, www.newvoices.co.za. This has been my biggest success thus far, I must admit though, when I matriculated in 2007 at the age of 16, I had a different draft of myself for 2010. When I applied to study language practice, I thought it would be that easy to enrol and 3 years later be a graduate. It is unfortunate that I was not able to because I didn't have Afrikaans on my Senior certificate. In my eyes my dreams had been shattered, a certificate in Versatile Broadcasting was not falling to the ground. With an A in radio theory 2008 was elevating, and all the extra activities that taught me leadership and independence gave me a greater view to success.

I then studied Management, which was a mistake that I can never regret as it taught me that endurance has significance only when you are following your path. At first it didn't seem so bad, as I had studied commercial subjects in high school, but my mother was happy and so I thought as a daughter it is good to please my parent. In the past two years, I have been involved in community outreach programmes, through Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), I have worked on an hour campus radio show, bizz chat's, doing women in business and reciting inspirational poetry to aspiring entrepreneurs, attended entrepreneurship seminars that have given me courage to dream big and not let my age stand in the way. I have been featured on online magazines for my art and creativity, performed my poetry and received standing ovations.

I am a patriot. A black woman that takes pride in being born under the African sun. My poem, 'My vision for Africa' I explain why I believe we as Africans need to go back to our roots, history and way of life in order to heal, grow and live in harmony and abundance as a continent. Our generation can only prosper, be HIV free and innovative if it reads and so the culture of reading can only be brought back by the promotion of literature: poetry, story telling, novels and essays. I dream to be a publisher, author and entrepreneur but first I want to be a lecturer on 'African literature'.

I want to be the change that I want to see in my country.
