James Gardener writes endearingly about his time and experiences in this place. His voice is full of wonder, longing and love for the free, clear space he finds under his marula tree. He populates his hard landscapes with his own gentle cast of characters – Kugwe, Mma Kgopane, Cornelius Swanepoel and Victor Matumbe.
