About the Book:

Petals in the Wind is an unusual romantic tale interwoven with real social and cultural issues rooted in a traditional Indian community in South Africa. For Sonali Kothari, marriage and motherhood represents a necessary social transition because these tenets conform to social expectation on family values. Sonali’s craving for social acceptance takes her on a journey to self-discovery. Her misfortunes and independent decisions ironically contribute to her self-empowerment...

“The writer establishes the central character’s emotional fragility and the flowering of a mind which is independent in assessing the values and attitudes prevalent in her society, which is damaged by those norms, yet grows independently after the buffeting.”

Rosalie Couve De Murville

“A rare exhibition of poignant social issues that would otherwise go unnoticed.”

Renusha Manilall
