About the Book:
It is hard to believe that twenty years have passed since Raymond & I moved to Banhoek onto the small holding that was to become Hillcrest Berry Orchards. It is only when we stop to take stock of what has been achieved in the intervening years that we realise how time has flown. One of those markers in time is our series of books about berries. In the Foreword to our first modest little book written in 1997 we wrote: “we see (the book) as a beginning of what we hope will be a continuous dialogue between ourselves and those who have enjoyed discovering all that Hillcrest Berry Orchards has to offer”. At that time we really were the best kept secret in the Western Cape, as so many visitors told us – in fact we were hardly known at all! But that fruitful dialogue developed into our second more ambitious book about berries, published in 2006. There we offered a collection of our favourite recipes from the restaurant, interspersed with all sorts of interesting facts, often passed on to us by our visitors, about those delicious, juicy berries that seem to concentrate all the goodness of summer in their gleaming little cells.

About the Author:
This year Craig, Mynhardt and I thought to ourselves that there are even easier ways of enjoying the colours and flavours of berries – just liquidise them! So we put our heads together and came up with more than 70 creative ways of quenching the thirst, feeding the soul and healing the body.

And all in a glass – what more can one ask for …?
For those who are already familiar with making drinks this book will hold few mysteries but for the novice we have added a few hints and definitions on the back page.
All you really need are a blender, some attractive glasses, maybe a muddle stick or a swizzle stick and of course loads of berries, fresh or frozen. Use your imagination, improvise and enjoy! There is something for every occasion and mood: hot summer days, end-of-day exhaustion, meal on the run, party-time and sophisticated cocktails.
