About the Book:
Some years ago, I discovered that poetry is a fantastic way to bypass my internal sensor. In writing prose, I am somehow not able to express emotion, to grapple with life and to process experience in quite the same way. Francis Ponge once wrote that when people are no longer simply proud of being the origin of ideas and feelings, but begin to appreciate that they are the crossroad where ideas and feelings divide and mingle, they will be saved. Throw in a splash of life experience and this is my poetry. On occasion, as I sat down to pray I would find a poem emerging. By the time I had finished writing it, something deep within would have shifted. Poetry has been the place in which I grappled with life. In the pages that follow, I have included most of the poems I have written. Woven through the poems is the story of a search for vocation, a longing to find my call in life. My search is far from over, but in returning to a place and a career I thought I had left behind, it seems a fitting time to document a part of that journey. It will probably serve you well to think of this less as an anthology and more as the equivalent of a photograph album. Snapshots of time and experience caught in a few brief lines.
